In connection with his corpus-based literary research project currently in progress (A Comparative Study of Five English Translations of Lesya Ukrainka’s Drama The Song of the Forest), Patrick Corness visited Ukraine in June/July 2018 with support from a British Council Culture Bridges International Mobility grant (EUR 1112,60) and with the co-operation of the eminent Ukrainian writer and scholar Eugenia Kononenko. Patrick gave a presentation on some preliminary findings at the IX International Congress of Ukrainianists in Kyiv on 25th June 2018 and also took part in discussions on his work in progress at a meeting of translators and writers held in Fulbright House, Kyiv and at Lesya Ukrainka Eastern European University in Lutsk. His tour included visits to Lesya Ukrainka museums in Kyiv, Kolodyazhne (Lesya Ukrainka’s former home in northwest Ukraine) and Lutsk. Co-operation is on-going with Eugenia Kononenko and other colleagues in Ukraine, in particular at Lesya Ukrainka University in Lutsk. More about Patrick’s work to follow!
