Research Seminar: Designing online assignment-specific feedback on writing across the curriculum

We do hope you will be able to join us for a seminar at 12.30 on Wednesday 25th July by visiting scholar Shari Lughmani, from Hong Kong. Shari has led a number of projects at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University that involve English language tutors and content lecturers collaborating to provide feedback to students on a variety of credit bearing modules across the curriculum (e.g. see the LID project: https://literacy.elc.polyu.edu.hk/ ).

Talk Details:

Designing online assignment-specific feedback on writing across the curriculum

This brief talk will introduce an online feedback model developed to support students taking a general education subject with integrated  English Writing Requirement  assignment. The assignment has two rounds of revisions based on the feedback provided by the marking teachers within one semester before the final paper is submitted to the subject teacher.  The feedback model is jointly developed by subject teachers and language teachers.  The aim is to support all stakeholders that include students, marking teachers and subject teachers.

The online feedback system will be demonstrated including its logistical and administrative protocols that have allowed the EWR team to respond to 6000 students multiple drafts each year – around 2000 students each semester. Ample time will be reserved for questions and conversations.

Everyone is welcome! Please spread the word!
