Academic visitor: Aysel Şahin Kızıl

CLaC is delighted to welcome Aysel Şahin Kızıl from İzmir Bakırçay University, Turkey as a visiting researcher. Aysel is an experienced educator and researcher with research interests in two main areas, computer assisted language learning and the use of corpus linguistics in language teaching & learning. In the area of corpus-based language teaching and learning, she has worked with both written and spoken corpora carrying out investigations of multiword units and data driven learning (see here for further details). She has been involved in several international corpus projects such as the Louvain International Database of Spoken English Interlanguage (LINDSEI; transcription and mark-up) and the Corpus of Advanced Learner English (CALE). She has also contributed to local and international journals both as an author and a reviewer including Computer Assisted Language Learning, Language Learning & Technology, The Asian EFL Journal and the Journal of Language and Linguistic Studies.

Her current research project focuses on the use of corpora to identify useful phrases in a corpus of research articles in the field of Health Sciences with the aim of producing pedagogic materials to guide researchers writing in that area. Details of the project are here.
